In Dr. Lisa Arnold's Contemporary Women Writers class during the fall of 2017, we focused on women writers and speakers throughout history that have had an influence on society in some way.
The first work that I have included here is a small biography of Malala Yousafzai. As a class, we created an online archive of women who we thought should be included in our anthology. These women had to have some kind of written or spoken work focusing on issues stemming from gender and sexuality. I focused on a speech that Malala gave in 2013 to the United Nations Youth Assembly in New York.
The other work that I included in this portfolio is what Dr. Arnold called a "Theory-Building Essay". Unlike the other assignments from Dr. Arnold's class, this assignment was more of a formal essay. For this project, I focused on the struggles that young girls in Afghanistan are facing in an effort to receive an equal education.
