A Little About Me
My name is Samantha Jochim and I am currently an English Education student at North Dakota State University. I created this portfolio for Dr. Kevin Brooks's Advanced Writing Workshop: English 458. Most of the texts included here were written for that class.
I am originally from the small town of Linton, North Dakota. I am the only child of cattle ranching parents and I have always been exposed to animals and the outdoors. The place and the way that I was raised have really influenced my life today. My parents are incredibly hard-working people and I like to think that I have some of that same quality.
As I highlight in my life and literacy narrative, I did not always want to be an English teacher. English Education was something that I found during my second year at NDSU and now I think that it was in the back of my mind all the time just waiting for me to find it. I love the subject of English. I love reading and I have learned, through this class, to love writing as well. It is freeing to me to enter another world and another mind as I read and I have learned that I can generate that same experience with the readers of my own writing. Education has become a passion of mine. The more that I work with students of all ages, the more excited that I become about teaching and helping students learn and love English and literature as much as I did when I was in school. I hope to incorporate some of the assignments that we did this semester into my future classroom to help students become more confident in their writing.
